Members of the Mormon Batallion!

We enjoyed a Saturday morning with our friends the Evans at the Mormon Batallion Historic Site in Old Town San Diego.
We got a chance to take a tour and "travel along" with some characters from the Mormon Batallion. It was really fun and the kids really enjoyed it.
Ashton got to dress up like a soldier, and we all panned for gold.
After the museum we walked across the street and had a picnic and played some frisbee before it was time to head home.
Thanks Evans family for inviting us!

Lake Miramar... and some ducks

The boys and I decided to mix up our daily park routine, and head down to the lake to feed the ducks.
It took a minute for Weston to realize that we were throwing the pieces of bread to the ducks instead of eating them, but either way he was having fun.
After a little while the ducks came right to the shore to find all of the crumbs that the boys had dropped. Ashton then let me know that "they are trying to get dry, mom".

Finally!

The boys love Disney movies.
Especially the Pixar ones, so we have been waiting for them to bring back the Toy Story movies.
Since T.S.3 will be out in June, it makes sense that the other 2 are now for sale.
We are glad that these movies are now among our fast growing Disney collection!

Saturday getaway

Think Park City meets Jackson Hole.
Cute shops, fun places to eat, carriage rides on every corner.
We decided to make the hour drive to this fun town and get a taste of what it's famous for...
It's apple pies.
Ashton had overheard Tommy and I talking about going and informed us that he wanted to go get some pie in the mountains :)
On our drive to Julian we turned on a movie for the boys. I had rented the Princess and the Frog the day before, and Ashton let me know that he didn't want to see that movie because it was about Princesses. I got it anyways and they seemed to like it. Weston fell asleep about 10 minutes from our destination, but was happy to wake up for lunch.
We ate at The Miner's Diner which was a 50's style soda fountain.
It was extremely crowded, but we got a table and the food was really great.
We made sure not to eat too much because we were getting apple pie later.
Tommy had done some research on where the best pie was, and The Julian Pie Co. was our next stop and we were not disappointed.
We all shared slice of dutch apple a la mode! (Yes I cheated on my "no sugar" rule, but it was worth it).
It was of course delicious.
Hopefully we will get back to Julian sometime and try some more flavors.
Yummmmm!

Easter treats

I personally am not a fan of rice crispy treats.
I have never made them, but saw the "easter egg" rice crispy treat commercial, and thought they looked like a fun activity to do with the boys.
It got a little sticky, but they had a blast.
We melted chocolate and peanut butter and they had fun dipping and decorating the "eggs".
To finish them off, Ashton added sprinkles in a variety of colors.
We all had a good time and they have enjoyed helping themselves to these yummy treats!

Sea Grove park in Del Mar

First off, let me just say that I LOVE this little town.
I'm sure the majority of you that have vacationed in San Diego either know of, or have also been to Del Mar.
Cute shops, fun restaurants, beautiful beaches, expensive cute beachy houses.
There is a nice park very close to the water, and we ventured out to meet friends there today.
Right by are the tracks for the "Coaster" train, and about every 45 minutes a small train quickly passes.
It's fun for the kids to watch from a safe distance.
On our drive to the park, we were stopped for a minute because one of the beach houses was getting ready for a second story to be added to it.
On the drive back home, they were finally placing the level so I got a quick picture.
(As I am writing this, Tommy and I are watching the report about it on our local news :))
.
We had so much fun at Sea Grove park in Del Mar and can't wait to go back!

Tonight for dinner we had homemade Costa Vida/Cafe Rio.
The closest Cafe Rio is in Laguna Hills, about an hour north from us.
We went there for lunch on Saturday, and had a nice family outing.
It was fun to make it at home, and the recipe I found was delish. The cilantro lime dressing was identical...YUM.

Almost pool time!

Our boys love to dig. It's easier to do in the sand, but dirt works for them too! These shovels looked fun at Target today, and they will definitely get played with.
We played in the sun until they had had enough, and then we spent a half an hour scrubbing faces and hands:)
On our way home from our walk today Ashton begged me to go to the pool. It's suppose to reach almost 70 tomorrow... maybe we'll go splash!

Who needs a park?

The boys and I have loved walking to this large grassy area about 2 miles away from our house. There is no park, no swings, no monkey bars, but there is room to run and explore. On our way we enjoy talking about the colors we see, the different animals we can spot, and Ashton has a nice pine cone collection. We also enjoy singing songs on our way too and from home. Normally we try and walk and play earlier in the morning. We throw on sweats and tennis shoes, and head out. But this particular day we were already dressed and had just gotten home from running errands and couldn't pass up the good weather. I didn't think about throwing on better "walking" shoes, and it made for an interesting walk home. Hence the picture of my shoes. Besides the blisters ( I guess 4 miles in ballet flats will do that to ya) it was a fun outing. I think we will bring a picnic next time.
